U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs

  • Group Info:
We offer mental health counseling, assessment and psychiatric medication maintenance to any veteran who is enrolled with the Lubbock V.A. Each veteran must be enrolled as a patient with the Lubbock V.A. and have a primary care physician (PCP) assigned. To begin mental health services the veteran needs to request a referral from their primary care physician and will then be seen by the Mental Health Center within two weeks of the referral. Veterans can see a psychiatrist for psychiatric medication and maintenance. Group and individual counseling is available. We offer groups for anger control, depression management, substance abuse and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The group types and times vary and the veteran will need to ask their assigned counselor/case manager about the groups. Individual counseling includes counseling for depression, anxiety, PTSD, anger control, substance abuse and any other issues with mood. We offer some couples counseling but no family counseling. Psychiatric emergencies are handled through the V.A. toll free number at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) 24 hours a day, seven days a week including holidays. Press “1” to specific with a crisis counselor specifically for veterans.
